2025 – the second decade of recording

There were a total of 1100 wild adult koala sightings. This number is less than last year but really shows how populations fluctuate for many reasons.

These days of sightings were the result of activity on the property by 18 individual adult/independent koalas.

7 of these 18 koalas were females and 11 males.

The kindy has been host to 2 koalas for different reasons during this year.  This is another way Koala Gardens assists saving koalas.  The kindy was kindly funded by ifaw and FOK and koalas are in the kindy under the rescue and rehabilitation licence of FOK.

So now get settled and enjoy looking back over the 18 koalas that lived on, or came through Koala Gardens during 2025.

You can watch them all on YouTube with the link below giving you all the video released in 2025.

VALENTINE

was the clear winner for the year being seen here 255 days! He also spent 7 days in care at FoK having a chlamydia check which came back negative!

HONEYDEW

SELENE

Daughter of Onyx, and sister to Jasper .

Tragically both mum and daughter were lost to chlamydia. Another reason why the work here is so important as koalas face so many challenges.

An important aspect of the work here is daily observation which gives more opportunity to spot disease early and increases chances of saving them.

Chlamydia is endemic in koalas in this area due to the high stress of generalised habitat loss.

ONYX

A huge, strong female who produced 2 joeys while here. Sadly we lost her with her daughter Selene to chlamydia.

She has her own playlist on YouTube

JASPER

is brother to Selene and the son of Onyx. He separated from her late in 2024 and was seen here a further 68 times until he dispersed. Live well and make many joeys mate!

He has his own playlist on YouTube.

ZEUS

is a wonderful young male koala. He spent just a few months here in the cooler part of the year and dispersed out when the breeding season started up.

I saw Zeus 39 times over the months he was here.

This highlights another of the important roles Koala Gardens plays in providing safe habitat where juveniles can learn and grow.

Each year young koalas disperse all through the east coast of Australia from July – December. Ensuring there is plenty of linked habitat right down the entire coast is critical if they are to survive.

MOMO

has been at Koala Gardens for 2 years now but he isn’t here all that often. I might only see him a few times each month and saw him 34 times in 2025

RUBY

arrived here with as a juvenile and we are so excited to know she was mated either not long before she came, or when she arrived.

She is beautiful and I saw her 34 times, but she is still around in 2026.

She has a couple of videos on her YouTube playlist.

MIDNIGHT

Midnight had an altercation with some dogs in the middle of the night. He was treated at FoK and released here. And he still pops in nearly every month!

I saw him just 8 times in 5 months, but isn’t he handsome!

This is yet another reason why the work here at Koala Gardens is so important. Providing safe habitat where koalas can be released, even if they then disperse out is critical after hospital events.

KOALAS IN THE KINDY

The kindy is an enclosed area at Koala Gardens where koalas from the local Friends of the Koala hospital come at times.

It provides them with a safe space to test out ‘living in the wild’ so we can be sure they are ready for release.

Most koalas that come here are orphans that are getting ready for the wild.

These two are Pemulway on the left and Baby Cakes on the right.

is a juvenile koala that has come and gone over a few months.

You can read more about Astra here.

He has his own YouTube playlist.

ELMO

is the son of the gorgeous Ellie. He separated from her in 2024 but he did pop back just 7 times during 2025 so maybe he has settled close by.

He has his own YouTube playlist.

CHARLEY

is a lovely juvenile that moved here during the dispersion.

He was only seen 5 times, so we hope he found a good place to settle and thrive.

Connectivity of habitat is critical for koalas to safely disperse each year.

VALLA

was seen just one time. In fact, I can’t be certain if Valla is male or female because they stayed curled up all day!
