A beautiful wild koala poem to warm your heart: by Shawn

Bullet, Fierce and Bright: A Poem by Shawn

Koala Gardens 2025 Wild Koala Day Poetry Competition

Each year, Koala Gardens hosts events for Wild Koala Day. One event is a competition open to people all around the world. The prizes usually include the chance to win a wild koala adoption.

Often the competition will involve creating poems, colouring in koala drawings, or making some kind of artwork.

The talent that goes into submission every year shows how amazing koala lovers around the world truly are.

Large male koala Bullet is seen holding on to the branch of a eucalyptus tree. With a background of leaves he is facing left but his full face is visible. His eyes are closed and the tear in his left caused when he ripped out an identification tag can be seen clearly.

Bullet the Koala, fierce and bright,
Climbs the tallest trees to defend the light.
With courage in his gentle paws,
He fights for forests with noble cause.
Saving the leaves, saving the skies,
Bullet dreams of a world where no koala cries.
In his heart, he carries all of humanity’s ties.

Bullet the koala leaning his head back to eat leaves. His mouth is half open as if he is going to bite a leaf which is close to his chin. The damage to his left ear caused when he ripped out an ear tag is in clear view.

You can read more about Bullet’s life at Koala Gardens here.

Shawn has also produced a lovely drawing in tribute to Bullet’s amazing acrobatic ability, which you can see here

Bullet Koala in the fork of a tree with his head resting on a branch. His font paws and left rear paw visible, as is the split in his left ear. His eyes are open and he look relaxed.
Bullet koala shown in left profile, surrounded by leaves. The sharp claws on his left front paw are in view as he reaches for a leaf, his sharp claw . Only his left eye is in view and this is wide open as he concentrates on his task. He may be using his large noise to help him select his meal. His torn left ear is visible with the white fur of the inner ear contrasting with his brown-grey coat.
