No Tree No Me: A beautiful koala poem by Gabi

Wild Koala Day Poetry Competition 2024

    No Tree No Me

The blue light of an early cloudy morning gives a beautiful hue to the dark colouring of Jordan in mature red gum tree. Against a background of leaves he is holding onto a vertical branch with all four paws, looking over his left shoulder to camera. His large, round face can be seen. He looks alert
    Alpha male koala Jordan

    It was a sunny day,
Beautiful eucalyptus trees on my way,
Suddenly I heard a whisper in a tree-
So I came closer and what did I see?
Three koalas!!! And they were talking to me!
The first one: Hey human, this is out tree!
The second then: Go ahead and tell everyone you see…we do need our trees!
And then the third one: Remember always, no tree, no me!!

Jordan sitting in the fork of a eucalyptus tree His back legs dangle over the front of the horizontal branch which he is also holding with his left arm. He is looking down from this position. The scent gland on his chest is is large and spreads right down over his belly.

So I continued my way along.
Some birds raised up in the sky.
And it seemed they were singing a song…

No tree, no me! No tree, no me!
