Racee

Racee came to live at Koala Gardens on 6th December 2016. She was around 18 – 24 months old so would not have been away from her mother all that long.

Racee was good dark colour, which, together with a lot of nose pigmentation made her easily recognizable. She was koala well known for the cheeky glint in her eye. She always seemed to have been up to some kind of fun mischief. When she was first seen she appeared to be sitting in a tree like she was riding a motorbike; so she was named, Racee.

Female koala Racee is sitting in a tree facing camera, She is holding onto two branches with her raised arms. Her face is partially obscured by one of the branches.

Racee quickly won the hearts of the followers of the Koala Gardens Colony around the world. She was important to the development of the colony . Her first joey Karla was born in 2017, Zorro being the likely father. Karla and followed by Phoenix in 2018 and Smokey in 2019.

Female koala Racee curled up asleep in a fork of a large pale barked tree.
Facing left and shown in a tree against a background of leaves and a cloudless blue sky, female koala Racee is looking over her left shoulder to camera. Her eyes are open and she looks alert.

We last saw Racee at Koala Gardens in early 2020. She raised three wonderful joeys one of whom, her daughter Phoenix, delighted everyone by introducing a third generation in her joeys Luna, born in 2021 and Grace born in 2022.

There is some great video of Racee and her family  on YouTube where she has her own playlist (below). She appears in the Koala Gardens Happenings for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
