Valentine the King we love by Carolyn Coburn

Koala Gardens 2025 Wild Koala Day Poetry Competition

A close up of large male koala Valentine’s face as he looks over his right shoulder to camera. His dark nose with its heart shaped nose pattern are prominent. As are his white chin and large fluffy ears. His eyes are open, he looks relaxed. The tight close up offers a view of the texture of and shading in his this brown-grey fur.

    Valentine, Valentine
With fluffy ears and nose divine
Sniffing your way through the trees
Got a heart on your nose
    And I hope it’s for me 😍
Better still, for Enya, Onyx, or another koala lady
Do your best to make us a baby
A koala Casanova who lives up to his name
He’s sure to win any love game

Show us your moves to get the best leaf
    A great acrobat
Though not yet topping a Bullet so sweet
    He’s still got potential
    And I’m sure we’ll see
Plenty of munching from more than one tree
Living his best every single day
    Koala Gardens is his home
And we want him to stay

Valentine is in a tree. Facing forward, his features are partially obscured by leaves and branches. His fluffy ears, white chin and large dark nose are prominent, his heart shaped nose pattern can be seen. His eyes are open.

Large male koala Bullet is seen holding on to the branch of a eucalyptus tree. With a background of leaves he is facing left but his full face is visible. His eyes are closed and the tear in his left caused when he ripped out an identification tag can be seen clearly.

Against a background of leaves and facing right, Valentine is sitting in the fork of a tree, holding onto the vertical branch in front of him with all of his paws. His nose is pressed against the same branch, giving the impression that he is smelling it.
